“Who does not live to serve, does not serve to live”, quote from Mother Teresa of Calcuta strongly influenced our chief Dr. Pablo Navarro, since he was a teenager. “It was a determining inspiration in my life, still now”, assures Dr. Navarro.
We are a gastroenterology and endoscopy practice, open since 2005. From the beginning, we marked a provincial and national difference. We give our best to offer our patients kind, professional, and personalized attention; we highly care about keeping updated on medical and technological issues. We warranty our patients that our procedures are done with the best international technical practices available, with safety protocols, desire cleaning and disinfection procedures with our equipments.
Dr. Pablo Navarro Castillo, is our head gastroenterologist. We invite you to review his resume here.
We can’t fail to mention that Dr. Carlos Humberto Navarro Hidalgo, father of Dr. Navarro Castillo, taught him the passion over Medicine.
Dr. Navarro, the father, is a physiatrist, his area is the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
He is also a general physician and works since 1980. He attends emergencies and makes home medical visits. He is well known for his accurate diagnoses.
We offer gastroenterology procedures. The most asked are GI endoscopy, colonoscopy, and gastroenterology consultation.
GI endoscopy and colonoscopy are tests done with endoscope.
The endoscope is a long, thin, flexible tube with a tiny light and camera at the end. As it passes through your digestive system, the camera sends video images to a monitor. Special instruments can be passed through the endoscope to take tissue samples and perform procedures when needed. Most procedures take no more than a half hour to 45 minutes to complete.
It helps to find and prevent digestive cancer and other diseases, such as ulcers, polyps, diverticula, and bleeding, among others.
The GI endoscopy is done through the mouth, to visualize esophagus, stomach, and duodenum.
Colonoscopy is done through the anus and shows images from the rectum, colon, and ileum (final section of the thin intestine).
Both tests are done with sedation, in order to avoid traumatic experiences.
The gastroenterology consultation is related to many organs: stomach, esophagus, colon, rectum, intestines, but also liver and pancreas problems.
Common diseases such as gastroesophageal reflux, gastritis, perianal problems, irritable colon, and other types of colitis.
We also give treatment to Colitis ulcerative, the Crohn’s disease, Celiac disease, cirrhosis, hepatitis of any type, and acute and chronic pancreatitis.
We feel passionate about therapeutic endoscopy. To accomplish it, we have very high technology equipment, and it requires a high investment.
We perform complex polypectomies, resection of gastric, esophageal or colon cancer in early stages, ligation of internal hemorrhoids, ligation of esophageal varices, treatment of upper and lower gastrointestinal bleeding, placement of PEG tubes, among other procedures.
Our technics are modern and we offer reasonable prices to our patients. Specially in complex procedures, that usually are more expensive in other practices or medical centers. Very few practices in Costa Rica own the latest technology equipment that we have, for high complex procedures.

The procedure is done with sedation that is highly safe for the patient and we warranty that you won’t remember anything about it, no traumas for you at all!
Sedation is much safer than general anesthesia and we have more than 20,000 sedated patients in our clinic, with an unbeatable safety profile throughout all these years.
We also offer the option of “conscious sedation”, which is an excellent option for the patient who wishes not to be sedated. It consists of using very low doses of sedative that allow the patient to be alert during the examination, but at the same time not feel the discomfort, improving the tolerability of the examination.
This is important because the longer we study, the less chance there is of escaping potentially dangerous injuries in the future. To lengthen the examination, the patient must be made comfortable. With conscious sedation, the patient is alert but very relaxed.
If this option is used, there is a 50% possibility that the patient will forget the exam and may not have any traumatic memories. It also allows them to recover more quickly.
Your sedation exam will be performed as mentioned above.
After the exam, you will go to a recovery room where you will get a snack and once you feel more alert, the doctor will explain the findings of your study.
This explanation is brief, but clear enough to the patient and companion so that doubts will be seen and solved.
We will provide any therapeutic recommendation that we consider appropriate, with the corresponding prescription, according to the patient’s findings and symptoms.
The explanation could replace (and therefore save) the consultation with the patient, we intend to solve the patient’s problem with the least possible investment.
It is important to clarify that complex cases will require a separate consultation, at a later date, to analyze the case calmly and responsibly, and have the opportunity to do an adequate physical examination, with a detailed medical history.
This would have an additional cost, but as we have indicated before. Usually, it is not necessary to make this query, since the explanation is often enough to solve the problem.
After the exam, you will receive a written report with photos of your exam, and a description of any injuries found, so that it can be interpreted by any physician.
It is not necessary to have previous consultation to get a test done. You can decide yourself, to prevent or following the recommendations of your head physician.
Nevertheless, when you come to us, it is important to tell us your history and symptoms, also indicate if you need a biopsy or special procedure to take into consideration when doing the test.
It is important that you inform us when you make the appointment if you are taking anticoagulant medications and that you remind us of it on the day of the appointment. W
We must know in advance if you have relatives with cancer, if you have doubts about being celiac (gluten intolerant) or if you have diarrhea.
If you have a previous endoscopy, it is also helpful to send them to us.
Many times the problem is solved on the day of the endoscopy, thanks to the explanation and prescription provided at the end.
If there is no pending biopsy, it would be the patient’s choice to consult us for additional questions or queries.
If a biopsy was taken, a few days later we will call you and explain the result, and any additional recommendations that may be necessary.
If a therapeutic procedure is performed, we will follow up by phone or face-to-face according to the case, until we are sure that everything is fine with the patient or any complications are solved.
If during the examination any type of injury is found, that requires surgery, the surgeon (either the private or the CCSS) will be referred to continue the required management.
Again, we want the patient to leave our office with his medical problem well solved, at the least possible investment.
This policy, based on medical ethics, has generated, over the years, many grateful and faithful patients.

Consultation is a fundamental part of our daily work. For efficiency, consultations are scheduled at separate times from endoscopies (procedures), usually in the afternoon.
We monitor all pathologies of the digestive system, including liver diseases that are a direct part of our specialty.
Common and complex problems such as reflux, gastritis, colitis, irritable colon, celiac disease, Crohn’s disease, CUCI, food intolerances, proctological problems are all part of our regular consultation.
If a new or extra test is indicated and the result must be evaluated later, you should not pay a second consultation for us to assess it, it is part of the follow-up that we consider appropriate for a consultation.
This information will be sent to you by any of our communication contacts.
The prices are very competitive, you must take into consideration that our equipment is high-end, we use all the necessary safety and sedation protocols and the examination is done by a gastroenterologist.
The prices for complex procedures are very reasonable. Frequently in a routine procedure such as a colonoscopy, an injury is found that requires additional treatment, such as a polypectomy.
The best moment is to carry out this treatment at that very moment, to avoid a double preparation, a double expense and second sedation.
This procedure may have costs not initially budgeted.
Intending to do the best for our patients, we agree to facilitate subsequent payments, because we trust the honesty of our clients.
We use mixed medicine with the CCSS. Within the limitations that the mixed medicine service imposes, we try to help the patient who requests it as much as possible with references, prescriptions, or exams.
Yes, but for a refund. You consult with us and pay us the fees; the doctor fills out the insurance sheet and then you process the collection from the insurer.
We are in the process of being direct suppliers, but we are not yet.
MasterCard, Visa, and Credix are accepted.
We do not accept American Express.
Payment in cash does not generate an additional expense for patients and is always received. We also accept payments in dollars. You can make a bank transfer if it is your preference.
When there is a procedure that was not planned and that increases the cost of the exam, we prefer to do it at once and give the patient payment facilities, than to delay it due to an economic matter. We are convinced that health is the most important thing.
